What we offer

Our Classes

Pre School Dance Classes

Foundations & Basics at beginner level

Class Details

We run classes at the Studios for our tiniest budding performers and they are full of variety and fun. These lessons are foundation training in both ballet and modern, and are structured - but very fun based for the children. We incorporate musical instruments, mime and song in these classes as well to keep them varied. If you'd like your little one to try a taster lesson which is free of charge, please get in touch.

Ballet

R.A.D. All Levels

Class details

Classical ballet emphasises graceful, fluid movements and long beautiful lines, along with adherence to particular technique, especially turn-out of the legs. There's also a focus on storytelling which is often achieved through visuals and choreography. Some may say ballet is the core of all things dance. It is definitely a discipline which supports many other dance styles – and very many dancers of all abilities love this structured genre.

Stretch & Pointe

Grade 3/4 upwards

Class details

This is a class for our dancers who have a good strong foundation training in Ballet, and can be taken in addition to ballet classes once dancers reach an appropriate age and ability. In these lessons we work on all aspects of limbering, to improve strength and flexibility which aids all dance genres across the board. It also dedicates sufficient time to pointe work, which should only be taken when dancers have matured sufficiently and are strong enough to cope with the demands of this classical technique.

Tap & Modern

I.S.T.D. All Levels

Class details

Tap Dancing is a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of metal taps fixed to the heel and toe of shoes. When beating and striking against the floor, they give a form of foot percussion. Combined with body and arm movements, this makes for a unique, fun and fantastic rhythmical genre loved by many. Modern Dancing is a broad genre of theatrical dance which includes elements of styles from ballet, contemporary, and expressive movement. It is emotive and less restrictive in some ways than ballet. It still teaches great technique which goes hand in hand with jazz and other more free genres.

Who we are

About Us

An established Performing Arts school in Gillingham, situated in the Medway towns. Classes are taken in R.A.D (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet, I.S.T.D. (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Tap, Modern and Jazz. Musical Theatre, and Singing. Free work is also taught and private tuition in all subjects is also offered. Teachers at Buxton Performing Arts Studios are qualified and passionate about the subjects they teach, for people of all ages (2 and a half years upwards) with an interest in performing arts to come and learn. We are a school that believes in helping individuals to be the best they can in chosen genres.
Whilst we are a school who strives for high standards, we appreciate that not everybody has the ability or indeed the desire to be a professional performer. For the most part, people are coming to enjoy themselves, learn a new skill, keep fit and set themselves free from the humdrum of every day life. To make and keep good friends and to work to achieve something. Sometimes a special talent is found, and this is nurtured and encouraged.
Some students have gone on to further professional training in the world of Performing Arts and are working as pro’s in this field. The teachers and Staff at the Studios, value the roles they hold to make everyone who comes through the door as happy as possible.

"I regularly work at Buxton Dance & Drama studios to photograph the students there and I just love to see how happy they all are. It has the most wonderful atmosphere and you can really tell just how at home they all are there. Over the years I’ve watched the children grow up and photographing them in the studio and during performances has been amazing, to not only see them change and grow as people but as performers too. "
